Bought this product because it was suggested as an essay source for a Photography class. We were to review only the photography section, and I will be using it in a first class of photography I teach as an introduction. There are two other sections to this DVD, Sculpting I know nothing about, but I do know quite a bit about Theatre. The theatre portion is lacking in structure, unlike the photography section.

Magicians Penn & Teller host BEHIND THE SCENES, the acclaimed, award-winning PBS series that features interviews with today's leading artists. Behind the Scenes brings the magic--and the mystery--of artistic creation to video by going behind the scenes to discover the creative process. Julie Taymor, director of Broadway's The Lion King, and the feature films Frida and Titus, creates an extraordinary kind of visual theatre using puppets, masks and music. The sculptor Nancy Graves--who wears a hard hat, works with cranes and often finds her material on the street--gives a dramatic introduction to how sculptors work with balance, often in gravity defying ways. Carrie Mae Weems, the photographer and folklorist, shows how to use composition and content to create meaning in a photograph. William Wegman also helps out by focusing on one of his playful Weimaraner dogs!
