Puppetmaster Review

Puppetmaster
Average Reviews:

A marionette maker dies, but his puppets don't... and they have a vengeful, murderous dark side. This is a classic low budget horror movie that works well. Watch it in 2D here or elsewhere (ASIN: B000A8OJOK ), or get the full series boxed set (ASIN: B000FNYXYQ ).
This (2D version) is the first movie in the Full Moon series of Puppet Master films. (No relation to a Donald Sutherland movie by a similar name.) This movie was good enough to launch a long series of sequels, and is a clever premise.
Included is what is advertised as a 3D version -- don't believe it. Most of it looks like a flat image that was just pushed back in depth slightly, but is still flat. Then there's inside-out, broken, eye-strain / nausea inducing imagery that doesn't conform to any definition of 3D that I'd use. The DVD author simply offsets the video by one or two frames in one eye, and on rare occasion (less than 2 percent of the movie, apparently) this produces something that looks somewhat like 3D. The other 98 percent of the time, it just looks like unwatchable poop.
The original filmmakers did not do this 3D conversion. It does not even look like an earnest attempt.
This is a +4 star horror movie, with a -2 star fake-3D assault to the eyes. Hence the 2 star rating.
If you haven't seen Puppet Master and like low budget horror movies (I do), then this DVD is probably worth purchasing (for the 2D version). -- If you like 3D (I do) or think the 3D might be a fun extra, then this is probably NOT the DVD for you, since the 3D is extremely un-3D and a complete waste of money. Saying that this is bad fake 3D, would be a gross understatement.

APE 3D (Big Fat Movie Show in 2D & 3D) Review

APE 3D (Big Fat Movie Show in 2D and 3D)
Average Reviews:

This DVD should have a big red sign over it saying "WARNING!!! THIS MOVIE IS CONTINUALLY INTERRUPTED BY TWO ANNOYING SOCK PUPPETS!!"
Two versions are contained on this disc. One in 2-D, with annoying sock puppets, and one in digital 3-D, with annoying sock puppets.
There is nothing on the box mentioning anything about the puppets.
So, anyone buying this will likely, as I did, assume that this is a
legitimate release of the movie APE in its standard 2-D and original 3-D
forms. It doesn't even indicate what 3-D format it is. You have to see
the inside leaf to find out that you need to buy digital shutter glasses. They just took a 2-D print of the film, likely lifted from the previous DVD release from IMAGE.(Seek that version out if you don't want to see puppets.) Luckily for me, I own this set up and even have a processor for turning other recordings into this format. I had even turned my IMAGE APE DVD into 3-D with it. It has several depth settings.
Does it work? That depends on what sort of 3-D you prefer. This process, called "Lazer 3-D" creates depth in the image. On a TV it gives you the feeling of looking into a deep box or tunnel. This is similar to recent so-called 3-D films like Nightmare Before Christmas and My Bloody Valentine. However, some foreground objects do seem to come out at you just a bit.
Lazer 3-D did a great job turning the original Night of the Living Dead (a grainy public domain print)into a 3-D film. There was real depth to it and they even added some CGI objects and effects to the film that did indeed shoot out into the room with you. Blood that splatters on your glasses, etc. I recommend it. It's pretty cool. And I recommend buying one of these Lazer 3-D set ups. The 3-D version of APE that I created was way better than this DVD, and I didn't feel the need to
crack jokes with a sock on my hand. Mystery Science theater was funny at first, but the others that followed have worn out their welcome.
I've tried watching MS3K in recent years and I find it to be a drag.
It was funny when I was 22. Now I am 39 and it just doesn't hold up.

3D V World the Matrix UNRATED CUT in Real 3-D (2002) Review

This is a warning: Avoid. It's not Sci-Fi 3D, it's soft core porn. I wish I had read Brad's review but I had taken the risk and ordered it by then. It doesn't belong with those other 3d classics and way too expensive.
After years of buying from Amazon, this has been the only Turkey.

The i-glasses system included in this package is not compatible with digital TV's. The system is only able to sync up with the old style analog TV's (which most people own). If you have an HDTV or an HDTV ready TV, this system simply won't work.

Monster House (2006) Review

Monster House (2006)
Average Reviews:

Watched Monster House in 3d last night with my 12 year old. It was fantastic, the 3d was great, next to no ghosting and i was paying attention to the detail of the movie. Lots of laughs and fun. The quality was alot better than Monsters vs Aliens and cloudy with a chance of meatballs, which i noticed much more ghosting around images. Buy it and enjoy, the last 15 minutes i kept saying wow.
