Escape to a forgotten and sleepy village, tucked away in the outskirts of a bustling metropolis. At the square sits a lonely and abandoned neighborhood theater - closed abruptly by the late owner many years ago, at the height of its popularity. Since then, the village has undergone a slow decline.
As the first anniversary of the owner's death draws near, his son, Nissim, has a dream in which he receives a commission from his father to reopen the rundown theater, which was shut down under mysterious circumstances.

With help from George his brother and a bumbling crew of village oddballs, Nissim carries out the dead man's wish. While that's happening, the sudden appearance of their uncle, Avram, after an absence of 25 years, unsettles everyone. Other than returning for his brother's memorial, there's something, or rather, someone else on his mind.
Apparently the mysterious Avram also holds in his possession a fabled movie that had kept the entire village enthralled for months on end at the theater back then. If screened at the reopening, the movie promises to bring the villagers together and capture their imagination once again.
Yet the contents of that movie also threaten to expose a family secret. So when Avram refuses to hand the movie over, the stage is set for a collision course between him and his nephews...
Desperado Square swept the 2000 Israeli Oscars, including Best Director and Best Supporting Actor. It later won the Golden Antigone Award at the 2001 Mediterranean Film Festival of Montpellier.
