This video is a great sing-a-long for all ages. I've been searching for this video for years on line. My son who has autism and is non-verbal loves this video and his old copy has had it from so much use. Please re-release this great Kernit the frog sing-a-long video so that all children can enjoy the magic of music at home. I don't understand why these videos disappear from the stores, surely they will sell.It is so hard finding good, clean videos anymore and this being such a classic from the muppets who are still very popular. I hope someone reads this and can offer this great muppet sing-a-long to the public to order as soon as possible.THANK YOU ! Sincerely Judy Keller from Ohio.

Alice in Wonderland (1982) / Children's Theatre Company (1982) Review

Alice in Wonderland (1982) / Children's Theatre Company (1982)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was in search for Alice in Wonderland on Amazon, as I could not find the older versions for rent in the local video stores. I had no idea there were so many different versions when I began my search for the 80's version that I remembered on TV as a kid. I came across this one and it had a lot of good feedback, so I purchased it. Anyone looking for the TV version they remembered when they were a kid, this is most likely NOT the version you want. While it was well put together, keep in mind that this version is a broadway stage set. A few props against a black backdrop, and some good actors. For the time that this was made, the make-up artist's did a great job. They spent a great deal of time on the costumes. I rated this movie 3 stars because I didnt think it was worth the price. This version is for someone who is an Alice-in-Wonderland super fanatic and wants every single version ever made. If your in search for the older version you remembered on TV, I found 2 versions to be the ones I remembered: 1972 version on DVD w/ Fionna Fullerton & Dudley Moore, and the 1985 version on VHS that stars musicians (Sammy Davis, Ring Starr, ect.) I decided to write this review because I didnt want to see anyone else feel ripped off and let down to find out this was not the version they were in search for. Hope this review was helpful.

Mother Goose Rock N Rhyme (1990) Review

Mother Goose Rock N Rhyme (1990)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The first time I ever saw this movie was on the Disney channel when I was about 11 or 12 years old and ever since then I have been in love with it and all the endearing even sometimes annoying rhymeland characters. The story is basically simple Mother Goose played so delightfully by Jean Stapleton has suddenly disappeared from rhymeland and it is up to her uptight son played to perfection by Dan Gilroy and Little Bo Peep played Shelly Duvall who was made for the part to find her and bring her back before everyone in rhymeland disappears and mother gooses's rhymes become nothing but a mere illusion. It shows all the hilarious struggles and complications Bo Peep and Gordon have to go through to find her and all the crazy characters they meet on the way. The sets are bright, colorful, and very creative as are the costumes and makeup and while the special effects are not very realisitic and corny the great script and amazing humor make up for it. This movie just about has any star in the movie and music business you can think of including Woody Harrelson as the lamb from Mary had a little lamb, Little Richard as the party loving Old King Cole, Ben Vereen as Itsy Bitsy Spider, and the musical trio ZZ Top as The Three Men in the Tub which was pure genius putting them in that role. This movie is amazing and although it may seem corny and even childish at times it still proves to be funny, endearing and magical and I promise if you watch it, it will make you feel like a kid again.

This is a great movie. It's real light hearted and comical. The characters are all very love-able, except for the ogre of course! I also thought it was neat that all the main characters are African American. I highly recommend this film if you're looking for a good, clean, fun movie to enjoy.

Faerie Tale Theatre: Magical Tales (1984) Review

Faerie Tale Theatre: Magical Tales (1984)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Collected in this DVD are four unforgettable stories from Shelley Duvall's beloved FAERIE TALE THEATRE series. However, the title for this compilation ("Magical Tales") is quite curious, because most (if not all) of the stories from the show can be described as "magical"! Still, your family will adore seeing these fairytale classics, enacted by a star-studded cast: Susan Sarandon, Ben Vereen, Leonard Nimoy and Vanessa Redgrave among them.
SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS:
Elizabeth McGovern is luminous in the title role of Snow White. Her acting is very understated and she perfectly captures the innocence and bewilderment of the character. Vanessa Redgrave offers a tour-de-force performance as the Wicked Queen, who dons several magical disguises to ensnare our heroine. Rex Smith gives us a Prince who is handsome yet goofy (a refreshing change), and Vincent Price is a delight as both the Magic Mirror and Narrator. Series creator Shelley Duvall has a brief role as Snow White's mother during the prologue.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST:
Beauty's (Susan Sarandon) merchant father steals a white rose from the castle of the Beast (Klaus Kinski). As punishment, the Beast orders that the merchant return to the castle in 3 days, or else one of his daughters must go in his place. Beauty selflessly sacrifices her own freedom to release her father. Once in the castle, Beauty slowly begins to win the friendship and trust of the Beast, who hides a gentle and kind heart beneath his frightening exterior.
PUSS IN BOOTS:
In return for some swanky new clothes, a clever cat (Ben Vereen) promises his master Edgar (Gregory Hines) a kingdom of his own and wealth beyond his wildest dreams. And with an extra bit of cunning Edgar might just win the hand of the fair Princess Lovinia (Alfre Woodard)!
ALADDIN AND HIS WONDERFUL LAMP:
Aladdin (played by Robert Carradine) is thrown into a world of wonder, danger and romance after discovering a lamp which contains a Genie (James Earl Jones) who will grant his every wish. Unfortunately, a scheming magician (Leonard Nimoy) also knows about the magical lamp and will stop at nothing to get it...

Hey Cinderella (1970) Review

Hey Cinderella (1970)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The one and only Jim Henson filters the iconic tale of Cinderella through his decidedly unique vision in this charming family film. Besides the traditional poor-girl snags a charming prince plot we also have talking frogs, purple monsters, dishwashing dogs and a fairy godmother whose spells make things completely disappear more often than not.
The familar plot has sweet, pretty Cinderella meeting her Prince in the Royal Garden for the first time while she is tramping through the mud (her stepmother has ordered her to get the kitchen floor dirty before she scrubs it) and promptly falls for him, even though she thinks he's a gardener ( she doesn't recognize him from his picture on the money). The gently loopy plot roughly follows its predictable path to the end , with the highlight being the masked ball where a huge, radish-loving monster waltzes by the startled King ( who observes that next time the invitations will have to be more specific). The King, who is a Muppet, gets the best lines in the film (such as when his distressed son asks if he will get any say in his marriage and the King retorts "sure you do, just not the final say") and is a truly inspired creation, and the movie is a fine addition to the Muppet canon.
If you enjoy "Hey Cinderella" you should also check out the terrific Muppet take on "The Frog Princess", which makes a delightful companion to this cute family film.

Red Riding Hood Review

Red Riding Hood
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My almost four year old granddaughter picked this film as she already knew the story of Little Red Riding Hood from her mom and dad. I was a little concerned it might be too scary as it is PG but I should have realized that she was able to handle it very well.
The wolf is a werewolf. Lainie Kazan is the grandmother and is reading the story to her grandchildren. Lainie is wonderful in this!! If you are over 50 you may remember her singing on the Mike Douglas Show or on Ed Sullivan.
While the wolf swallows people whole, it is done by special effects that make it look cartoonish thus not scaring even my granddaughter! She really loved the whole film and was very enthusiastically telling her aunt, one of my other daughters, how good it was!!
If you have a mature preschooler who understands pretend and cartoon violence, they will enjoy this as the singing and fun stuff are hilarious. There is a precarious situation for the two kids in the film but even that is broken by humor and turning out not to be as dangerous as it looks. Otherwise I would recommend the viewing be by at least 5 or 6 year olds.

Faerie Tale Theatre - Jack and the Beanstalk (1983) Review

Faerie Tale Theatre - Jack and the Beanstalk (1983)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Many years ago, the actress Shelley Duvall created and co-produced a series for Showtime Television called Faerie Tale Theatre. The quality of most of these stories are first-rate and feature many stars of the 1970's and '80's, quite a few of whom are still working today.
This is one of the worst movies in Faerie Tale Theatre's largely ingenious stable of titles. The impressive list of stars in this, including Elliott Gould, Jean Stapleton and Katherine Helmond are wasted on a meandering, silly script that falls far short of the creativity it was attempting.
Elliott Gould's Giant is written as extremely dumb, hearkening to the caveman stereotype and immediately short-circuiting any potential suspense in the rivalry between he and Jack. Mr. Gould is such a fine actor that I wish Faerie Tale Theatre had utilized the inventiveness evident in so many of their other productions, and made the Giant smart. This would make him a worthier adversary for Jack, and increase audience enjoyment of the story.
Jean Stapleton is similarly hampered by a script which eliminates the actress's intelligence and simply makes her Giantess a kinder version of her brutish husband. Utilize as many of the gifts that the actors possess. Trust them and the original tale rather than let misguided alterations ruin a fine story.
Katherine Helmond is extremely good in this as Jack's Mother. So good, in fact, that a decision could have been made to mute a forgettable Dennis Christopher, and make her the center of the story. That may seem like a stretch, but I guarantee you that the overall results would have been better.
Overall, though, she cannot save a rare misfire in the vaunted Faerie Tale Theatre series. I do recommend seeing this, as part of the series. However, do not start with this, as it will ruin your mood for what is really a classic series.

Faerie Tale Theatre - Pinocchio (1982) Review

Faerie Tale Theatre - Pinocchio (1982)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This version of PINOCCHIO from FAERIE TALE THEATRE is a wonderful adaptation of Carlo Collodi's timeless classic, about a wooden puppet who is brought to life thanks to a lonely man's desire to become a father.
Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) plays the title role with Carl Reiner as Geppetto, Pinocchio's loving father. Lainie Kazan is a sassy delight as Sophia, the Blue Fairy who grants the gift of life to Pinocchio, and James Coburn is fantastic as the evil Gypsy. Also in the cast are James Belushi and Michael Richards.
One of the best!

This production of THE THREE LITTLE PIGS from FAERIE TALE THEATRE is played strictly for laughs. With a talented cast including Billy Crystal, Valerie Perrine, Jeff Goldblum, Stephen Furst, Fred Willard and Doris Roberts, it makes for irresistible family entertainment.

Faerie Tale Theatre: Tales from the Brothers Grimm (1982) Review

Faerie Tale Theatre: Tales from the Brothers Grimm (1982)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Though Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre is available as a complete collection, the thematic DVD sets are also well-done. This particular DVD contains 4 adapted Brothers' Grimm tales:
- Hansel and Gretel which features Ricky Schroeder as Hansel, Bridgette Andersen as Gretel, and Joan Collins as both the wicked stepmother and witch.
- Rapunzel which features Gena Rowlands as the witch, Shelley Duvall as both Rapunzel and Rapunzel's mom, and Jeff Bridges as the prince and er, Rapunzel's dad.
- Rumpelstiltskin features Shelley Duvall as the girl/Queen, and Herve Villachaize "the plane, the plane" as Rumpelstiltskin, and
- Little Red Riding Hood which features Mary Steenburgen as LRRH, and Malcolm McDowell as the wolf.
The stories have a touch of humor in them and are well-acted by a talented ensemble cast. Highly recommended for the young and young at heart!

Hello Kitty's Animation Theater - Once Upon a Time (Vol. 1) (2004)

Most importantly, this is the first Hello Kitty DVD I've seen that actually features Japanese with English subtitles along with the English dub. This of course makes it the first Hello Kitty DVD I've bought as well. Amazon isn't listing this detail on their website...
The fairy tales are pretty true to their source considering how sanitized they are, I think. Also there is at least a taste of Eastern legends in the form of the Bamboo Princess. And of course high levels of Hello Kitty style cuteness.

This movie is pretty good for children, because it relates to fairytales but with Hello Kitty. The only reason I didn'y give it five stars, is because the graphics and characters are no where near as good as the movies made by the Sanrio Company; "Mom Loves Me After All," "Dream Theif," and "Santa's Missing Hat." The Sanrio-made movies are original and in my eyes, a lot better, but I still give this movie a thumb up.

Faerie Tale Theatre: Funny Tales (1982)

Some of the greatest comedians and comic actors appeared during the run of Faerie Tale Theatre. Collected here are four of the all-time best with the emphasis on comedy...
PINOCCHIO:
This is a wonderful adaptation of Carlo Collodi's timeless classic, about a wooden puppet who is brought to life thanks to a lonely man's desire to become a father. Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) plays the title role with Carl Reiner as Geppetto, Pinocchio's loving father. Whilst his two brothers (Fred Willard and Stephen Furst) carelessly squander their savings and build flimsy houses of sticks and straw, Larry wisely builds his house of bricks...which proves to be an extremely wise move when a Wolf with an attitude problem (Jeff Goldblum) goes a-hunting for bacon... Will Larry be able to stand up to the Wolf and win the affections of feisty piglette Tina (Valerie Perrine)? Wait and see!
THE TALE OF THE FROG PRINCE:
A spoilt, bratty Princess (Teri Garr) loses her beloved golden ball down a very deep well. Her only option of retrieving it is to accept the friendship of a 'repulsive' frog (Robin Williams). In exchange for a meal at the palace and a nights' sleep on her silken pillow, the frog retrieves the precious ball, but will the Princess uphold her part of the bargain?...
THE PRINCESS WHO HAD NEVER LAUGHED:
Princess Henrietta (Ellen Barkin) lives a life dominated by lessons, lessons and more lessons. Her only friends are her poe-faced father the King (Howard Hesseman), the tutor (Barrie Ingham) and governess (Mary Woronov). When her life becomes too much to bear she retreats to her room and won't come out unless someone makes her laugh. Enter 'Weinerhead' Waldo (Howie Mandel), who's considered the most funny boy in the kingdom. Will he make Henrietta laugh, or perhaps even capture her heart?
Fun entertainment for the whole family!

Having enjoyed the Fairy Tale Theater show at Martin's Fantasy Island for the past few years-it was a joy for my children and myself to be able to bring a part of it home with us. The characters are unique and the combination of puppets with people was very different. My 2 boys have watched the movie so many times I may need to order another copy. The acting is very good and the fact that is was all done using Green Screen makes it even more impressive. Very enjoyable for kids (and adults) of all ages. I highly recommend the movie.

In this awesome video collection, the Muppets take turns at telling six spoofs of classic fairy tales. The six stories told are "The Three Little Pigs", "King Midas", "Rumplestiltskin", "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", "The Elves & The Shoemaker", and "The Emperor's New Clothes". This video is hilarious and during a couple of the stories I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. My favorite in the collection is "The Elves & The Shoemaker". A tape that everyone in the family is sure to enjoy. Gotta love the Muppets.
